Well, back home. My first acting class is over. I am still a bit nervy, not sure why, it's over and I am home sitting on my couch.
First impressions. I like the people in the class. A lot of young folks like me which is nice, fifty fifty girls and boys. There is one man though that looks exactly like Larry David, jesus... almost like you have to see it to believe it. He is 50 something too. This guy was born to play Larry David somehow, someway.
Our acting teacher is cool, his name is Vladimir, he speaks with a bit of a russian dialect which is cool :) We got to do a few exercises of course during the 2 hour class, the first one was about sitting on a chair on stage. He immediately looks at me and says "Burak, come up here" and he asked me to sit on a chair, twice in a row, as an exercise. I am not going to bore you with the details but it has some good idea behind it. I am surprised that he picked me first, randomly, I thought "hey, this is why we are here, let's do this!" although I was a bit nervous. Not super nervous to be honest, there were some other people there who were a lot more nervous, and even admitted to it when we talked about ourselves.
He even invited us to the advance classes on Wednesday nights, which I have to go to. I am not sure if I am going to partake in the class which is more of an advanced class but I am at least going to watch it, and hopefully learn something.
We got some weird homework man, I can't even start to explain it, it's about some kind of body movement that we have to master, it's basically to teach us how to multitask, with our minds.
One homework that I can talk about though is that he asked us to prepare a monologue. I am not sure exactly what to pick but I think it is going to be the poem "The Soldier" by Ropert Brook. Am not completely sure if it's ok, it is a bit of a text after all, but no real talkie talkie, but I am sure it will pass. I just love that poem.
All said and done (roughly, am very tired) and my feelings after the first class is oddly... not sure. Am not SUPER happy, I did like and enjoy it but I am not jumping out of my chair, which I don't mind at all. I wasn't that nervous, was pretty comfortable with standing in front of everyone and I know that I can do better then most of those people, even the guy who has been in a film and a play in the US. I am going back on wednesday for the advance classes and thursday for my regular classes and we going to rock this. I dont feel like a fish out of water, I am just waiting to see how I react and cope with the reality of acting.
Cheers

My Books Are Here BITCHES!
Was in a bit of a mood. Turns out it's going to be shitty weather all week, and I was looking forward to keep tanning... (Hey, if you get sun for one month out of the year, you would be a sun worshiper too). But I do have some color on me now which fucking boosts my self esteem by 100x.
I tip toe down to the kitchen only to find this little red box, what in the...?
YES! My fricking books are here finally. After an semi-angry mail with a bitchy response it finally trickled down the mail, let's open it shall we?

BOOM BITCHES. Yes the coffee and the "Dumle" candy was complementary... not really, I had to fetch it myself. Now there is only one thing to do, "hit the books". I have already started reading Stella Adler's book. Got through two chapters. A lot to learn indeed, the only sad bit is, I wish I was there! Because the book is written as if you are in class sitting amongs the pupuls, so you can't really partake in the exercisez but alas. Can't complain I guess.
The books are; Stella Adler,The Art of Acting; Constantin Stanislavski, An Actor Prepares; Constantin Stanislavski, Building a Character.
One of the absolute first things Miss Adler mentions is "Don't buy Stanislavski's books, you won't understand them" don't know if I should :) or :(. Fuck me.

Poem, Trees
Ah poems, getting quite interesting now. I only picked up poems a few months ago. I am not actively looking for them but when I come across one I like for some reason I usually keep it so I can post it here later. I am really thinking about starting to write stuff, incl poems. And I am also thinking of getting some painting equipment so I can paint a little. I remember that I always used to paint as a kid. I really like oil paintings with bold strokes, like THIS one (that is currently my desktop pic as well, made by Claude Monet "Nympheas (1897)")
As far as acting update goes, I actually might to do an audition for a short film on Monday! The fella is supposed to send me the script on SUNDAY, that means I have one day to learn the shit. But he said it was intentional so... screw that guy man :( Nah he seemed really cool because his ad said that they were looking for people around my age with acting experience to come and audition and here I am. I am not expecting to get it at all, I just want to go for the sake of going and making and effort!
Anyway, here is the poem by (Alfred) Joyce Kilmer, a religious fella that likes to include it as a big topic in his poems. You guys know what I think about religion but nonetheless. This poem was really short and sweet. It's really expressive and for poem "n00bs" like me who don't get the heavy stuff (YET!) this one is a doll.
*Ehm ehm*
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
